Microphone Mentors: A Public Speaking & Communication Skills Mentorship Program

Program Description:

Presented by Marley Montano Production & ARTSPEAKSgnv, “Microphone Mentors” is a youth enrichment program that offers mentorship to teens on public speaking & communication skills. Created using funds from a grant awarded by SPARC352 in April 2024 and made possible by the UF Center for Arts, Migration & Entrepreneurship (CAME), the UF Center For Arts In Medicine, and the Mellon Foundation, this program is free and open to teens (ages 12-18). Since the program will take place at a public library, registration is open to the public, however we are targeting teens who either currently live in or have previously lived in one of the following communities in Gainesville, Florida that has been identified as underserved and in need of youth enrichment and youth empowerment programs: Duval, Lincoln Estates, Porters, Spring Hill, and Pleasant Street.

Meet You Mentors:

Marley “The Messenger” Montano

Owner & Lead Creative at Marley Montano Productions, Marley The Messenger is also a Florida-based, Venezuelan-American rapper & producer. The Messenger has performed at venues such as The Hard Rock Live in Orlando, FL and he has toured with and opened for Hip-Hop legends such as KRS-One, Guru, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, DJ Lord, and many others. In addition to hosting countless breaking (breakdance) and rap battles, Marley has been hosting concerts, festivals, grand openings of businesses, weddings, funerals, fundraisers, private parties, block parties, corporate parties, and live events of all types since 1999. He has been involved with Toastmasters International and several other public speaking societies and organizations throughout his career, and has given many lectures and presentations on the subject of communication. Marley The Messenger is also a 2023 MusicGNV recording grant recipient and in April 2024, he was awarded an artist grant from SPARC352. In May, Marley announced his partnership with E. Stanley Richardson and his nonprofit, ARTSPEAKgnv. Together the two artists have created Microphone Mentors, a program designed to equip teens with the knowledge, skills and understanding that it takes to speak with confidence, engage audiences, and influence others.
